Does changes in the household (christian marriages) cause stress?

By Dr. Jennifer Baxt, DMFT, NCC, DCC

When most think about the causes of stress, they tend to think about a place they have to go to where they feel the most stress, such as work or school. Stress-causing situations people will not think about include going somewhere new, or going through some major changes in their own home. Changes of any kind in the home can create a great deal of stress, even if most dont realize it.

The home, wherever it may be, is where a person can feel safe and comfortable. It is an area they are familiar with as everything is placed just where they want it, and the atmosphere is exactly what they have created to make themselves feel at home. It is the perfect place to relax and get away from the days stresses and, for the most part, a stress-free zone that most enjoy coming back to, until things change. Whether its the addition of another family member or renovations of any kind the elimination of the same familiar, comfortable area causes. Even though it is still a home, the changes are altering the atmosphere and/or the physical appearance of the home, which means that the familiarity with the space is being taken away.

It depends on the age of the individuals involved, as well as whether they are able to adapt well to change or not that will determine if the stress level is low or not. Younger people who are more excited about change to create their own comfort space and who might even be trying to start a family might not feel too stressed, because the stress they do feel is excitement about the changes they are making. Older people, or people who dont really like change, who have to make changes even if they dont really want to, might have a more difficult time in making the changes and will feel more stressed as a result. The difference with their stress is that they might feel crowded or uncomfortable and might not feel that they can make their new area feel like the home they had before. They want the old way back, but they realize that these changes are not going to make that possible and this can become frustrating and overwhelming, especially if the person has been living the same way and in the same situation for five or more years. They have become comfortable with their routine and way of life and a disruption of it is not always easily accepted.

In many cases, the cause of the stress can easily be identified by the person experiencing it because its fairly easy to see the changes going on around them, though there are some who dont quite see the connection between the subtle changes going on around them and the stress they feel. Either way, consulting an online counselor could be useful. Getting some help through online counseling to deal with the mounting stress is always a good idea and can help make the transition from the old to new easier. Especially for those who are feeling a higher level of stress, regardless of whether they are aware of what the cause of it might be or not, communicating with an online therapist can be extremely helpful. Through online therapy, a person can be helped to identify where their stress might be coming from, and then find out what they can do to deal with their stress.

Getting control of your credit and finances
By Dr. Jennifer Baxt, DMFT, NCC, DCC

In the United States, millions of people are finding themselves in debt. People are now suffering with more debt than they can handle and its causing many to attempt a drastic action; bankruptcy. Many see bankruptcy as a win-win solution for them. They wipe all their debt clean and, in only seven years, they are able to get perfect credit again when the bankruptcy is taken off their record; however, what many people do not realize is that it can stay on your credit score for as much as twelve years.

Getting control of your credit and your finances comes down to one thing; budgeting. Having a budget is one of the most important things you can do for yourself, and your family, because it will give you the ability to look at what you spend and how much you can save. The first task in putting together your budget is to look at your expenses in fine detail. This is an important first step because it will really open your eyes to how much you spend. Many people think nothing of buying a $4.50 latte every single day because they do not see the complete sum of that purchase. It may only be $4.50 a day, but multiplied through the month it comes to $135. That $135 could easily be used for credit card payments, bill payments or to put in savings, instead of buying a latte a day.

The second step in creating your budget and getting control of your finances and credit comes in setting limits for yourself. If you do not set realistic limits, you will be doomed to fail on your budget. Set limits that are attainable and realistic and do not be overly generous with yourself. When you are putting the budget together, you may be tempted to put aside $140 for your lattes, but is it really necessary? Of course, you should make sure you put some money aside if you can for fun items like a movie or going out for dinner once or twice a month.

The third step is to continually review your budget. During the winter you may be paying $100 per month in heating which you will need to budget for, but you wont be paying that in the summer, so why budget for it then? Adjust your budget to reflect the changing circumstances, otherwise it will get out of date and you will have trouble sticking to it.

Lastly, stick to your budget. Your budget is highly important and it is the best bet you have to turning your finances around and improving your credit score. If you do not stick to it, then there is no reason to even do up a budget. By making sure the budget is something you think about at all times, you will find success in controlling your finances. At this point, you will wonder how you ever lived without a budget and why more people do not use this great financial tool to help, or keep, themselves out of debt.

How To Make Business Partnerships That Work
By Chris Simpson

Building a business partnership can be an excellent idea; however, it is important that you make sure that you make business partnerships that work. Whether it is a short term venture or a long time commitment, it is important that you learn how to make it work. Here are a few great tips that will help you make sure that you start out right and keep up a partnership that will work well.

Tip #1 - Have a Mission and Vision that is Shared - Any business should have a mission and a vision, and if you are entering in a partnership and you want to make sure that it works, you will need to make sure that you both have a mission and vision that you come up with together and agree on. Discuss the mission and vision together and decide on a purpose for your partnership. Write down the mission and the vision for the partnership. It will help you as you go along and serve as a reference for all that goes on within the partnership.

Tip #2 - Discuss Expectations and Needs - People enter into partnerships for a variety of different reasons. Some want connections, others need expertise, and some want capital. However, it is important that you know the expectations of each other as well as their needs so you don’t end up with a strained relationship. Decide on this before you sign a contract so you are aware of everything that your partner is expecting from your partnership.

Tip #3 - Use Your Partners Strengths - Within a partnership, it is going to work best if you identify the strengths of you and your partner and the use those strengths. There are obvious strengths that you will find and it is important that you don’t overlook them. You want to make sure that you use strengths that will help you both become more successful. This will also help to motivate each of you as well.

Tip #4 - Understand Limitations - There are always going to be limitations on the part of each partner. You need to understand this and your partner needs to understand your limitations as well. When one partner has limitations, you need to identify and accept them before they become a problem. Also, these limitations can be supported by the other partner so that there are not gaps within the business.

Tip #5 - Set Goals - If you want to have a business partnership that really works, then you need to both set goals and strive for them. Have individual goals, but make sure that these goals will support the goals of the entire company. Make sure that you take a look at these goals together and then follow how well you actually achieve them.
